SLS vs Sulfate Free Products

What is SLS?

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is an ingredient used in a lot of health and beauty products. It can be found in some laundry detergents, toothpaste, shampoos, face wash, aqueous cream, hand wash, conditioners, lotions and some baby products.

SLS is used as it is relatively cheap, has an effective foaming action and also a degreaser. This ingredient is also used to clean the engines of cars due to its ability to remove grease effectively.

Some people may feel that the only way to cleanse their skin is with a lot of suds and foam.

Have you ever wondered why when using a product with SLS that your skin feels dry afterwards?

The Dangers of using SLS

If you have a skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and acne it can aggravate the skin more and weaken the oily barrier on the skin.

In shampoos it can cause irritation to the skin and scalp, leaving it flaky. It could also strip your hair of its natural oils leaving your hair dry, frizzy and unmanageable.

It dries out the skin and strips oil from your skin.

Sulfate Free Products

Sulfate-free Shower gels are more gentle and kinder to the skin. They do not have a drying action and can be more soothing to sensitive skin or those with skin conditions.

Sulfate-free shampoos cleanse the hair and retain moisture in the hair.

When switching to a product that is sulfate free you will recognise straight away that the foaming action is different. We do not need a lot of foam to be clean, this is quite the opposite.

You will also notice a big difference in how your skin will look and feel. It may take a while to get used to switching to a sulfate free product, but the benefits will be worth it.

All our products are sulfate free and are gentle to the skin.
