Health Benefits of Onions

Onions are root vegetables, they contain vitamins A, B, C, E, Folic Acid and Sulfur.
Onions have so many health benefits and can be added to different types of meals. Although they are best eaten raw to get the maximum benefits you can still get medicinal benefits when cooked.

There are different types of onions here are some of them; red, brown, yellow and salad onions.

There are more antioxidant properties found in red onions than yellow or brown onions. Onions contain quercetin which is a powerful flavonoid with anti-inflammatory properties which helps to fight free radical damage (chronic diseases).

What is quercetin?

Quercetin is a natural pigment that is in vegetables, grains and fruits.

  • Quercetin is also benefical to people with skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and those who have allergies and may improve inflammation.
  • Onions contain sulfur which is a mineral, sulfur helps to improve your skin, nails and hair
  • It can reduce inflammation
  • It can improve lung function in asthmatics
  • It can reduce blood pressure
  • It can regulate blood sugar levels
