11 Triggers of Eczema

Eczema can be a debilitating skin disorder which affects everyone differently. The triggers can be different from one person to another.

  1. Stress is an important factor but sometimes you may not know that you’re stressed. If we can identify when we’re stressed, we can use mechanisms to cope with it. Finding time for yourself and doing something that you enjoy could help. Having strategies to manage stress levels can be beneficial such as praying, yoga, meditation or tai chi.
  2. Food e.g. wheat, eggs, dairy, shellfish or nuts – Keeping a food diary could help to identify foods that cause a reaction.
  3. Lack of sleep.
  4. Hormonal changes being, on your period or during pregnancy
  5. Skin infections
  6. Environmental factors: air pollution, damp, cold or hot weather
  7. Irritants – bubble bath or soaps
  8. Cleaning detergents
  9. Fabrics such as wool or polyester
  10. Latex
  11. Pet dander

I was able to identify triggers such as stress, particular foods and ingredients which I used on my skin. I looked into natural ingredients which could soothe my skin and made my own balms. I now make my own vegan skincare range and this has helped me on my journey to recovery.
